Gab and I first met way back in February of 2015 at a mutual friend's birthday party. This was one of your more run-of-the-mill teenage birthday parties, just a bunch of friends acting as teenagers do. Neither myself nor Gab arrived there with any intention of finding a lifelong partner...or at least I did not (can't speak for Gab!). At this party, in between the screaming, eating and jamming to the emo songs of the day, Gab and I began to throw glances at each other. Outside of the occasional glance and maybe a word or two, this was the extent of our courting at this event...but obviously, things do not end there.

Back in the day, I and a few others in our friend group did not have iPhones. We were Android plebeians destined to prevent the rest of the group from having a proper iMessage group chat. Due to our stubbornness, our group was confined to the old Kik messaging app, if readers of my generation can remember that. Shortly after the aforementioned party, Gab and a few other newcomers were added to our Kik group chat. The group chat was intense, with messages coming from every which way just about every day. As expected, that takes a toll on trying to interact with the girl you want to interact with...so I took my chance and slid in those DMs (before sliding in DMs was a colloquially understood term). Our conversation took off right away, and the rest is history. Thanks for reading!

Just kidding, but for real, the conversation was easy-going. It did not take long for us to both feel like we were talking to an old friend we've known for years. For some reason, one of my clearest memories of one of our conversations at that time involved figuring out how we can emancipate from our parents. Don't ask why.
